A Message from the Artistic Director

March, 2012

OUT ON A LIMB

What an exciting 2011-2012 Season of Catharsis we have been having! So far our primary focus has been on benefits and fundraisers to raise money for our three main shows in 2012: Weill/Brecht's
Happy End in June, Mozart's Cosi fan tutte in August, and a major world premiere of Matthew Owens' City of Saint Francis in November. We are still $2,500 short of the Happy End budget of $5,000 (how cheap can we get?) But we're forging ahead no matter what!

ON THE ROAD
The Kurt Weill Project has been having a terrific time performing the theater music of Kurt Weill in bars and alternative venues around the Bay Area. We have now found a home for our Monday Music Salon series every second Monday at Stage Werx, 446 Valencia, San Francisco, a professional black-box 67-seat theater with very comfortable (padded) fixed chairs and not a bad seat in the house, in the heart of the trendy Valencia corridor in the Mission District!

We have also performed our Kurt Weill cabaret show at  Cafe Royale, a unique cabaret space with couches, bistro tables and chairs, and a full bar. A great relaxing evening of amazing music and incredible performers. Check our website for upcoming performances at other venues as well.

NEW LIMBS
We also have a brand new extremely proactive and enthusiastic Board of Directors who are in hot pursuit of all the contemporary media, social or otherwise, leaving no stone unturned in the very challenging and competitive performing arts community in the Bay Area. We have a renewed commitment to generating photographs and audio and video recordings to put on YouTube, Goat Hall Productions' blog, and heaven knows where else. Our Board is undaunted in the face of the seemingly endless media being offered to anyone and everyone. Look for us!

THERE'S LIFE IN THE OLD GOAT YET!
We are currently in the throes of auditioning and casting our three main stage productions, and seeking inexpensive rehearsal venues. To that end, we are in conversation with Miriam Lewis and Douglas Mandell, owners of Goat Hall and co-founders of Goat Hall Productions, about a massive cleanup and reorganization of the building we call Goat Hall, so we can rehearse there at little to no cost. It's time to resurrect our old venue if only for rehearsals. It's a long way from being performance-ready. But there's life in the old Goat yet! Goat Hall, in case you do not know it, is a large mustard-colored building on the corner of Missouri and 19th streets on Potrero Hill in San Francisco. We rehearsed and performed there from 1997 to 2004, and we miss it!
